Introduction Croatia EV startup and technology specialist. Not only created its own electric supercar, but its consultancy services attracted the investment from Porsche and Hyundai. Bugatti is also now under its ownership.
Brief History
Rimac was founded by Mate Rimac in 2009 when he was just 21. 2 years earlier, he converted his BMW E30 323i into an electric car and enjoyed some fun in motor-racing. Having realized the potential of electric power, he founded his company to develop and build high-performance electric components for cars, such as batteries, inverters, motors and axles. Later on, he expanded into composites and autonomous driving technology as well.

2 concept supercars were unveiled in 2011 and 2018, but even before the latter reached production under the name Nevera, Rimac had already became a well-known EV technology company in the industry, attracting investment from Hyundai group and Porsche. Aston Martin Valkyrie and Koenigsegg Regera employed the high-performance batteries it made, while Pininfarina commissioned it to build its electric supercar Battista. In 2022, Nevera finally went into production. Rimac became a supercar maker.

In the same year, Volkswagen group shifted the control of Bugatti to Rimac in exchange for minority stakes in the Rimac group and the merged company Bugatti Rimac. As a result, Rimac gets a prestigeous brand it desperately needed, while Bugatti is relieved from heavy investment into EV tech.
